Introduction
Aligning objectives with skills and competencies
- The first step you can take to bring career planning into your classroom practice is to look towards Career Competencies as you write learning objectives. Career Competencies describe groups of skills that employers recognize as vital to success in their industries. Published by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the 8 competencies can be mapped onto many classroom learning goals and assignments.
Embed credentialing
- Students have free access to LinkedIn Learning through the University. If your courses focus on specific skills or routinely use certain tools or software, support your students seeking a credential through LinkedIn Learning. Credentials help signify to employers that the candidate has a verifiable level of expertise in an important element of their potential job. For a tutorial, click here.
Career in your Classroom

- Offer credit for credentialling related to your course
- Incorporate experiential opportunities using tools like The Forage, an online job simulator that students have free access to with their UFID.
- Work with your students on describing their course experience on their resume
